Many people are afraid to go to the dentist because of a fear of needles or pain. Luckily, here at Candlewood Dental Care in New Fairfield, CT, Dr. Lorraine Burio uses a new technology that makes dental visits even more pleasant than before.
Meet the Waterlase™: Waterlase is a laser that when used in combination with water, can perform many of the dental procedures traditionally done with regular dental tools. This laser can be used for both gums and tooth procedures unlike previous lasers, which were only used for teeth whitening or for the gums.
How Does it Work?
The water absorbs the energy from the laser and the energized water removes the tooth decay. Our teeth are also made up of water which helps the laser cut through the parts that need to be removed. The water also makes sure that the tooth stays wet and cool throughout the procedure.
Other Benefits
Besides Waterlase basically eliminating the need for shots and drills for many patients, there are a few other key benefits.
- Using the Waterlase means that your dentist can do multiple procedures in one appointment. Instead of having to schedule more than one appointment over a period of time, you can get simple procedures done quickly and efficiently. A dentist who uses Waterlase may also be able to save you the trouble of finding and going to a specialist for certain procedures.
- The Waterlase is also safe enough to be used on both pediatric and adult patients. It is very precise and gentle on your mouth. A drill uses a little more force and generally removes larger amounts of tooth; this also means that you’ll most likely need anesthetics. With Waterlase, smaller procedures eliminate the use of anesthetic because it’s not anywhere near as painful.
