Reinforce Good Dental Hygiene Practices During National Dental Hygiene Month

Every October, National Dental Hygiene Month is the perfect time to renew your commitment to maintaining good oral health and reinforcing good dental hygiene in your family.

Here are 4 easy steps to follow to establish a good oral health routine:

  • Brush twice a day for 2 minutes each time with a soft-bristled brush. Brush your tongue too to keep your breath fresh and remove bacteria.
  • Floss daily to clean out plaque between your teeth.
  • Rinse your mouth every day with mouthwash to get rid of biofilm and bacteria that can cause cavities and gum disease.
  • Chew sugarless gum after every meal, unless you are able to brush quickly. Chewing increases saliva to wash away food particles and neutralize damaging acids.

Get To Know Your Dental Hygienist!

Another critical component of good oral care is regular dental visits for cleanings and exams. Our dental hygienists have extensive experience in dental cleanings and exams and are trained in the most up-to-date procedures.

Your dental visit begins with a blood pressure reading and a discussion of how dental disease can impact systemic health. Our state-of-the-art equipment includes intraoral cameras that display actual photos of your teeth, gums and soft tissue as we point out any areas of concern. We’ll measure your gum health and look for signs of gum disease. We also use a device called a Velscope to perform an oral cancer screening that goes further than the naked eye can see.

Your hygienist will then use expert skills to clean and polish your teeth. You will leave the office with a clean and fresh mouth and, best of all, the feeling that you are taking excellent care of your oral health!

We recommend a dental cleaning every 6 months. Please give us a call for an appointment. We have convenient hours including some evenings that will fit into any busy schedule.
