5 Tips To Keep Teeth White After Whitening

Whether you have had your teeth whitened in-office or with an over-the-counter product, the last thing you want to see is discoloration creeping back.

No teeth whitening procedure is permanent. If you expose your teeth to foods and beverages that cause staining like coffee and red wine, the whiteness may begin to fade in as little as one month. If you are more careful and avoid those foods and drinks that stain the teeth, the whitening may last up to one year or longer before more treatment is needed.

How To Keep Teeth White After a Whitening Procedure

Read on to learn how to keep that smile sparkling bright after whitening:

  • Keep up your daily brushing and flossing Brush after breakfast and before bed – at the minimum. An electric toothbrush can really do a good job of cleaning the teeth.
  • Use a toothpaste that protects against yellowing and removes deep-set stains. We’d be happy to recommend the best toothpaste for your needs.
  • Rinse with an antiseptic mouthwash daily to kill the bacteria that causes plaque.
  • Brush during the day to fight discoloration. Take a travel-sized brush and toothpaste with you to work to brush after meals and snacks.
  • Rinse your mouth out with water after drinking cola, coffee, tea or red wine.
  • Come into the office for regular checkups. Our routine cleanings includes polishing your teeth with an abrasive cleaner that removes some surface stains.
